The start of the 2022 club rugby season in Wellington is this Saturday, 2 April.
The two competitions that are scheduled to get underway this Saturday are the Premier Men’s Swindale Shield and Premier Women’s Rebecca Liua’ana Trophy competitions.
Fourteen teams will line up for the start for the Swindale Shield and eight this year for the Rebecca Liua’ana competition, although Covid could provide a sting in its tail with more disruptions likely. In the event of cancelled games, points are shared.
Old Boys University (Men) and Ories (Women) are the first round defending champions, whilst Tawa beat Marist St Pat’s 36-5 in last year’s Men’s Jubilee Cup final and Ories beat Norths 26-15 in last year’s second round Division 1 final.
