In cool, cloudy conditions at the Hutt Rec in front of an estimated 3,000-strong crowd, Ories went out to an early 8-0 lead with the wind in their favour. Paremata-Plimmerton came back to old a 14-8 lead, but Ories struck three times to take a 27-14 lead into halftime.

Ories played well into the wind and shut Paremata-Plimmerton out of the game. They scored their next try on 60 minutes to move ahead 34-14, before Paremata-Plimmerton scored a well-deserved consolation try at the end.
