If the season ran its usual course, Week 12 of the Wellington club rugby season would be this Saturday.

The rugby community remains sidelined, as the country comes back from Covid-19 lockdown.

But we have a new start date for the season of Saturday 20 June.

Until then, here are some images from our photo galleries vault of past week 12 Swindale Shield and Jubilee Cup matches, from our archives 2002-2019.

2004: The opening weekend of the 2004 Jubilee was played in dire conditions. At Kilbirnie Park, Norths took down Poneke 6-3 in an arm-wrestle in the mud. Here Norths prop Anthony Perenise evades the clutches of Poneke fullback Elvis Fu’u. PHOTO: Dominion Post.

2007: Staying at Kilbirnie Park, Hutt Old Boys Marist’s Nick Risdon chips past Poneke first five-eighth Toto Moananu in his side’s 19-9 win  in the opening Jubilee Cup round. The Eagles would go on and win the title some two months later.

2010: Fresh off scoring 18 tries in the Swindale Shield, Norths fullback Buxton Popoalii makes a run for it against Ories in their Jubilee Cup opener. He scored two tries in this 45-23 win at Porirua Park.

2012: Two tries for lock Pati Gaulalofa against Petone at Lyndhurst Park in their Jubilee Cup round one 37-3 win.

2013: First five-eighth Fa’atonu Fili scores in the corner for Ories against Petone in the first week of Jubilee Cup matches. Fili scored 16 points in the Magpies’ 21-16 victory at the Polo Ground.

2016: No. 8 Victor Vito gets a pass out the back door for Marist St Pat’s against Tawa. Vito and hooker Valentine Meachen scored tries as MSP edged Tawa 12-8. The two teams would meet again in the final two months later with Tawa prevailing 24-20 in the season decider.

2017: Prop Finbarr Kerr-Newell in open space in an electrifying 38-36 Wood Cup and 12th round Swindale Shield win for Old Boys University against HOBM at the Hutt Rec. This win sealed OBU’s first round title with a week to spare.

2018: Flanker Du Plessis Kirifi and second five and try-scorer Kienan Higgins celebrate Northern United’s Ken Douglas Trophy and Swindale Shield round 12 win over Old Boys University. This 50-45 win gave Norths the Swindale Shield title by a point to the defending champions OBU.
