Hurricanes versus Sharks: won 38-22

The Hurricanes have now played the Sharks 24 times; more than they have any other South African side.

The Hurricanes have won their last four matches in succession against the Sharks.

The Hurricanes have scored exactly 200 tries against South African sides in New Zealand.

The Hurricanes have conceded 899 tries in all matches against opposition sides.

The Hurricanes played their first home game of the season: at the newly renamed Sky Stadium.

Devan Flanders, Tyrel Lomax, Billy Proctor, Pouri Rakete-Stones and Scott Scrafton all appeared in their
first home match for the Hurricanes.

Jackson Garden-Bachop started in successive matches, for the first time.

Vince Aso made his first start in 2020.

Vaea Fifita made his first start in 2020.

Liam Mitchell played his first match in 2020.

Dane Coles played his first match in 2020.

Isaia Walker-Leawere and Scott Scrafton became the 59th different locking combination to start for the
Hurricanes.

TJ Perenara started in a Hurricanes match for a record 122nd time. All his starts have been at halfback. He
passed Conrad Smith and Ma’a Nonu who both started in 121 matches.

Ben Lam scored two tries: it was the seventh time he has scored two or more in the same match. It was also the sixth time a Hurricanes player has scored two tries in a match against the Sharks after Christian Cullen at Wellington in 1996 and 2000, and at Durban in 2003; Jonah Lomu at Wellington in 2000; and Ngani Laumape at Napier in 2018.

Jordie Barrett kicked 13 points against the Sharks to take his tally in 51 Super Rugby matches to 286. He also scored 11 points in the match against the British & Irish Lions in 2017 which takes his overall tally for the Hurricanes to 297 points. He is now just one point away from equalling Jon Preston who scored 298 points for the franchise and who presently lies in fifth place on the all-time point scoring list.

Ngani Laumape scored a try for the third time in matches against the Sharks. Several Hurricanes players have scored in two matches against the Sharks, some consecutively, and Christian Cullen actually scored tries in five separate matches, but Laumape is the first to do so in three successive matches: previously two at Napier in 2018 and one at Durban in 2019.

Hurricanes overall match record: Played 337, Won 192, Lost 139, Drawn six.
