The Hamilton International 7s is this weekend. On Saturday, The New Zealand men’s team plays Japan at 12.36pm, Canada at 4.26pm and Spain at 8.36pm. The Black Ferns 7s meet England at 1.26pm and France at 5.10pm in their Fast Four tournament, also involving China.
No Wellington players in the 2019 New Zealand 7s squad named this week, but a shout-out to Andrew Knewstubb from Horowhenua-Kapiti, the only Heartland player selected.
There are two more weekends of summer, before the rugby for 2019 begins in the lower North Island. On Saturday 2 February the Hurricanes play the Crusaders in Levin in their first pre-season fixture and the Northern United club is holding the Norths Invitational 7s:

Jeff Toomaga-Allen heads to Wasps at the end of this Super Rugby season, joining another Wellington College old boy Lima Sopoaga, as well as former Petone and OBU first five-eighth Jimmy Gopperth in Coventry. Headline photo above is him scoring a try for Marist St Pat’s against Poneke in 2015.
Accacia Te Iwimate (Petone) has been selected in the NRL Women’s Maori All Stars team to play the Indigenous Women’s All Stars in Melbourne on 15 February.

Poneke hooker and Hurricanes captain Dane Coles has confirmed he is staying in New Zealand after extending his contract through to 2021.
His re-commitment means New Zealand Rugby and the Hurricanes can continue to rely on his outstanding leadership, skill and experience for the next three years.
