Condors Sevens take two on Saturday

After a false start last Labour Day Monday, the Condors  tournament on Saturday is set to usher in Sevensvember across the region.

In changes to last Monday’s draw, there are two fewer teams in the Open Boys grade and no Open Girls section (there is also the Hurricanes Girls 7s tournament for those leading teams tomorrow), as the rescheduled tournament runs throughout the day at Naenae College.

Last Monday’s tournament was postponed owing to the poor weather forecast and high winds that blew through the venue late in the day.

Tomorrow there will be eight Open Boys teams whipping up a frenzy in expected fairer weather, with St Pat’s Silverstream the hot favourites to take the title off last year’s winners Hutt International Boys’ School.

There are two Silverstream teams entered tomorrow and the school had five matches together including three hard-fought games against two Super 8 schools and Feilding High School at last Saturday’s Hurricanes tournament whilst other Wellington schools stayed at home.

The Open Boys sides are: St Pat’s Silverstream White, St Pat’s Silverstream Blue, Hutt International Boys’ School, Mana College, St Bernard’s College, Scots College, Tawa College, Wellington College.

St Pat’s Town and Rongotai College were originally entered for this last Monday but they have dropped off the pace, reducing the field from 10 to eight.

The eight teams are in two pools, these being:

  • Pool A: Wellington College, St Bernard’s, HIBS, Silverstream Blue
  • Pool B: Scots College, Silverstream White, Tawa, Mana

The Open Boys tournament gets underway at 10.00am with the final for the Christian Cup scheduled for 4.10pm.

There are also rescheduled U15s Boys and Girls tournaments running concurrently tomorrow.

The 11 U15 Boys teams in three pools are (note there are also crossover games):

  • U15 Boys Pool D: Hutt Valley High School, Wellington College Black, Silverstream Blue, St Bernard’s, Taita College
  • U15 Boys Pool E: Wellington College Gold, Silverstream White, Naenae College
  • U15 Boys Pool F: Newlands College, Scots College, Bishop Viard College

The U15s Boys tournament kicks off 9.00am with the final for the Roderick Solo Cup scheduled for 3.45pm.

The four U15 Girls teams are:

U15 Girls Pool G: Scots College, Sacred Heart College, Aotea College, Wellington Girls’ College.

The U15s Girls tournament gets underway at 10.40am, with the final for the Tanoa Cup set to be played at 3.20pm, and a new champion is guaranteed to be found with no St Mary’s team entered tomorrow.
