Matchday Scoring Highlights: Petone (59) v Marist St Pat’s (19)

Your 2026 Swindale Shield leaders.

Petone produced a swashbuckling first half of attacking rugby to exhaust Marist St Pat’s defensive supplies, and went to halftime leading 40-5.

The home side were in peak form, the visitors meeting a side playing like it was 1973 all over again. First year Left wing William Davis, out of St Pat’s Silverstream, scored two first half tries, while halfback Logan Henry slotted five conversions from near or on the sideline.

It got better for Petone fans, cheering from in front of their boarded up stand, when they ran in two more tries, including a third to Davis, to raise the half century.

MSP came into the game, while Petone had a couple of yellow cards and also rung the changes from the bench and Petone went on to win 59-19.

Please note that one of Petone’s first half tries is not shown in the highlights above – that scored by right wing Wesley Faitale, a former Taita College head boy. This is owing to a multitasking fail by the cameraman, who was watching a key moment of another game on a livestream on his phone at the same time and forgot to hit record for this play. He has been reprimanded.

In this coming Saturday’s 10th round of the Swindale Shield, Petone take on the Avalon Wolves for the Morgan Family Trophy at Fraser Park, while Marist St Pat’s play Poneke in another traditional fixture on the calendar for the Horan-Millar Trophy. That game is at Kilbirnie Park.

The two sides also played for the Bill Elvy Memorial Trophy. About him in the previous history profile below:
