The two teams met at a windswept Rugby League Park on Saturday.
The match would go down to the wire, with a 14-player Centurions side holding up Tasman over the line with the last act of the match to hang on and win.
A few minutes earlier, Wellington replacement wing Pose Tuileapa cut through a hold in midfield off an attacking scrum to score the match-winning try, with a Tasman player having just been sent to the sin-bin.
Earlier, Tasman had first use of the wind and soared to a three tries to two halftime lead – one of these tries was a charge-down and the other was an intercept.
The Centurions outfit came back in the second half but the Centurions did just enough to put their noses in front as the clock wound down.
The Centurions’ next assignment is in Christchurch this coming Saturday against Canterbury B.
