Matchday scoring highlights: Poneke Colts (43) v Johnsonville Colts (15)

The Wellington club rugby Colts Paris Memorial Trophy competition is one not to be missed.

This round 10 fixture between mid-table Poneke and lower ranked Johnsonville was transferred to neutral Nairnville Park. It was played in fine but windy conditions.

The match had uncontested scrums from the outset so that battle was negated. Poneke had a clear edge in the lineouts and through their ball runners close to the ruck, who provided impetus all match and their #6 and #8 scored some five tries between them. Johnsonville were competitive in other areas, often on par in the breakdowns and had some strong running backs on the counterattack and in the attacking zone given limited opportunities.

Poneke scored three first half tries and led 19-5 at halftime. They pulled away in the second spell through consecutive tries from lineouts in the corner. After an earlier yellow, Poneke had a played sent from the field, and Johnsonville subsequently finished with a flourish with two tries at the end.
