[Updated] Four Hurricanes teams in action, club rugby pre-season begins this weekend

All four Hurricanes teams are playing this weekend, in Wellington, Taupo, Melbourne and Christchurch.

The action starts this afternoon at Rugby League Park, Newtown, with the Hurricanes and Crusaders A sides meeting. The match between the Hurricanes Hunters and Crusaders Knights kicks off at 2.30pm.

The Hurricanes men’s side are playing the Rebels in Melbourne tonight at 10.10pm NZT in the second round of the Super Rugby Pacific competition.

Super Round Melbourne will feature all 12 Super Rugby Pacific teams competing in a 3-day, 6-match trans-Tasman rivalry.

The Hurricanes U20s are in action for the first time this year on Saturday afternoon in Taupo against their Chiefs Counterparts. Kick-off at Owen Delany Park to be confirmed. This is the first hit-out of the year for this side, that has been selected from the recent tri-series between the Wellington, Hawke’s Bay and Manawatu academies. They then return home to play the Crusaders U20s next Saturday and then go to Taupo from 16-25 March for the Super Rugby U20s tournament.

The Hurricanes Poua women’s team is playing their second Super Rugby Aupiki fixture of 2023 in Christchurch against the Matatu at 4.35pm.

The first shoots of the 2023 club rugby pre-season are sprouted tomorrow with all clubs coming together as part of their preparations for the season-proper that kicks off on Saturday 1 April.

Their are four clubs involved in matches at Maidstone and Mary Crowther Parks.

At Maidstone, the Upper Hutt Rams and Wellington Axemen Colts and Premiers/Premier Reserve squads meet in two matches starting at midday.

At Mary Crowther, home club Wainuiomata play Hutt Old Boys Marist in a Premier/Premier Reserve fixture at 3.00pm.

Johnsonville are on the road to play the Feilding Yellows at Johnston Park.

Marist St Pat’s are in Sydney. They opened their account on Thursday night with a 29-10 victory over Sydney University.

MSP play Northern Suburbs and Manly in a game of three halves on Sunday in their second match.
