Continuing the series in the men’s game, with some highlights from the Swindale Shield, Hardham Cup and Colts competitions.
#13: We love a clinical set-piece try and this one is fine example, as Poneke score through tighthead prop Soti Fa’amausili in their Jubilee Cup 24-13 win over Petone in June:
#14: Avalon beat Paraparaumu 24-11 in the final of the Paul Potiki Memorial Shield at home at Fraser Park, but the decider was tight as a drum right up until the final 10 minutes. This was the winning try with a few minutes to play on Fraser Park.
#15: HOBM Green beat MSP 37-17 in their home Colts semi-final, with Albert Polu making a popular run up the grandstand touchline for this try.
#16: OBU Green beat HOBM Green 32-7 in the final of the John E Kelly Cup Colts final on Finals Day, racing to a match-winning lead inside the first half with counter attacking play like this:
#17: Fa’atonu Fili lays on this try for inside back partner Isaia Petelo in the 2019 Hardham Cup final. This try early in the second half proved the match-winner and MSP held on for a 28-22 win against Old Boys University.
#18: Jayden McCarthy crosses first phase from a scrum for an emphatic try for Norths in the Jubilee Cup final. Norths beat Wainuiomata 26-15 to win the silverware for the first time since 2010:
Still to come in the ‘Tries of the Season’ series: Women’s tries, College rugby/First XV tries and Representative rugby tries.
