The two sides met at Rugby League Park in Wellington in fine conditions in their representative team clash.
Wellington skipped to an early two-try lead, which would ultimately prove necessary as Hawke’s Bay rallied over the back end of the game to push it close. They got within a converted try of victory and on another day would have scored from a ferocious late charge in the corner through a series of attacking lineouts and scrums. The Centurions held on and the final score was 45-40 to the Centurions.
