Matchday scoring highlights: HLS Old Boys University v Pōneke

The OBU and Pōneke Premier 2 sides contested a rollicking Harper Lock Shield fixture on Kilbirnie Park #2 on Saturday.

OBU scored 15th and 40th minute tries through second-five Floyd Rose and centre Jackson Wright to lead 14-0 at halftime.

OBU then scored their third try right after halftime from a scrum on halfway to go 21-0 up. This then became 28-0 following a Pōneke breakdown and OBU counterattack and bonus point try to No. 8 Ollie Church.

Never say never, they fought back to score consecutive tries to close the lead to 28-12, then No. 8 and captain Conor Strang scored a chip and chase solo try to close it to 28-19.

OBU scored their fifth try following a lineout, before Pōneke came back to two tries, before running out of minutes and the referee blowing fulltime on their winning aspirations.
