Facts and figures from the Hurricanes’ win over the Reds in Wellington below.

Round 7 v Reds: Won 52-14

After 26 years of staging Super Rugby home matches (plus one in 2026) the venue originally known as WestpacTrust/Westpac Stadium (2000-2019) and more recently Sky Stadium (from 2020), has a new name.

Welcome to Hnry Stadium.

The Hurricanes played 121 matches under the stadium’s first “two” monikers and 38 under the “third”. The total of 159 does not include the non-Super Rugby match against the British & Irish Lions in 2017.

So, to bring you up to date, the Hurricanes have now played 160 matches at the stadium for 113 wins (70.6%), 44 losses and three draws.

The Hurricanes and the Reds have met on 28 occasions. The Hurricanes have won 22 times to the Reds six.

The Hurricanes have beaten the Reds more often than they have any other Australian side. They have beaten the Waratahs 19 times, the Brumbies and the Force 14 times each and the Rebels 12 times.

This victory by the Hurricanes brought their sequence of consecutive wins against the Reds to 11, a sequence which has only been bettered by their 12 wins in a row against the Rebels from 2012 to 2024 when they ceased playing Super Rugby.

The Reds last beat the Hurricanes at Brisbane in 2013 when they prevailed 18-12. The Hurricanes have not lost to the Reds in 13 years and 27 days.

The Hurricanes put 52 points on the Reds: the first time they have reached 50 points. Their previous highest score had been 47 points (twice): 47-29 at Brisbane in 1997 and 47-13 at Townsville in 2023.

The Hurricanes have now posted 50 points or better in a match 28 times including a Super Rugby record-equalling four occasions this year.

This has happened five times before. In 2005 the Crusaders scored consecutively 50, 59, 51 and 77 over the course of eight matches, in 2010 the Bulls scored 51, 50, 50 and 51 in a 10 match sequence, in 2016 the Chiefs totalled 58, 53, 50 and 60 over 14 matches, in 2017 the Hurricanes (for the first time) scored 83, 71, 56 and 61 in 11 matches and in 2018 it was the turn of the Waratahs: 51, 50, 52 and 77 in the course of 12 matches This year the Hurricanes have scored 52, 59, 50 and 52 again in just six matches.

Before 2026 the Hurricanes had never scored 52 points in 422 matches. They have now done it twice in the space of six matches: firstly in their opening encounter with Moana Pasifika and now five matches later against the Reds.

The Hurricanes have conceded 50 or more points on just four occasions.

By comparison the Reds have scored 50 or more points 11 times and conceded 50 or more points 19 times.

The Hurricanes winning margin of 38 points against the Reds is also a new record. It had previously been 34 in their 47-13 win at Townsville.

The Reds have scored 14 points in three of their last four matches against the Hurricanes in Wellington.

The Reds finished the match five points short of reaching 10,000 in Super Rugby, now sitting on 9,995 points.

The Hurricanes have hosted the Reds on 14 occasions for 12 wins and two losses.

Those 12 wins have been in succession: the Hurricanes have not lost a home match since the Reds won 41-33 at the old Athletic Park on 22 March 1998, some 28 years and six days earlier. This is a new record for successive home wins against any side surpassing their 11 against the Lions from 1996 to 2018.

It is hard to believe the Hurricanes have now won their last 22 home matches against Australian teams. This sequence began straight after their 24-29 loss to the Waratahs at Wellington in 2015.

Since that match the Hurricanes have gone on to beat the Brumbies four times, the Force four times, the Rebels six times, the Reds four times and the Waratahs four times. Fifteen of those victories have been at the Westpac/Sky/Hnry Stadium, four in Palmerston North and three in Napier.

The Hurricanes have passed 2,000 points in 58 home matches played against Australian sides. The total now sits at 2020 points.

The Hurricanes have now also conceded exactly 150 tries in all home matches against Australian sides: a record 39 against the Reds, 38 against both the Brumbies and the Waratahs, 18 against the Force and 17 against the now defunct Rebels.

The eight tries scored by the Hurricanes beats their previous record of six tries scored in a match on six occasions against the Reds: in 1997, 2000, 2010, 2021, 2023 and 2024.

The Hurricanes kept the Reds scoreless in the second half for the fourth time: in 2010, 2022, 2023 and 2026. The last three occasions have been in the space of five matches.

The Hurricanes made three changes to their starting XV from that which took the field in the previous match against the Highlanders. There was one change in the backs and two in the forwards.

Cameron Roigard scored his 23rd try in 53 matches for the Hurricanes. It was his fifth try against the Reds in five matches against them. He failed to score in his first match (in 2021) but has since scored one try in 2023,two in 2024, one in 2025 and another this year.

Roigard has scored the Hurricanes first points in each of their last three matches: all tries. It is also the first match in their six played to date where they have been the first team to score points.

It was also the first match this year when the Hurricanes were never behind on the scoreboard at any stage.

Josh Moorby has now scored 25 tries in 44 matches. However Umaga’s tries were not in consecutive matches: four matches separated his efforts. In 2017 Vince Aso scored three tries twice (separated by two matches) and Nehe Milner-Skudder also touched down three times once. In 2018 Ben Lam scored (a briefly held Hurricanes record) four tries against the Rebels at Melbourne followed four matches later with three against the Lions. Six matches after that Ngani Laumape equalled Lam’s record with four against the Blues at Wellington.

Bailyn Sullivan now has 18 tries for the Hurricanes in 46 matches.
